As of 9:43 AM on September 21, 2025, the MLB playoff race sure looks like it’s going to be exciting. In the AL, the Mariners lead Houston by 2 games, the Guardians from out of nowhere are suddenly only one game behind Detroit, and the Blue Jays with a win can clinch. As of right now, they are the number 1 seed. Below this are the standings as of right now.
- Toronto Blue Jays 88-66
- Seattle Mariners 86-69
- Detroit Tigers 85-70
- New York Yankees 87-68
- Boston Red Sox 85-70
- Houston Astros/Cleveland Guardians 84-71
Now in the National League, which this year seems to be a much superior league than the American League, there are a couple of races to look out for. The 6 seed Mets are only leading the Cincinnati Reds by 1 game. Don’t forget the Diamondbacks, who are only 1 game behind Cincinnati. The Brewers and Dodgers have both clinched a playoff berth, while the Phillies have already clinched the NL East. Below this are the standings as of right now.
- Milwaukee Brewers 95-60
- Philadelphia Phillies 92-63
- Los Angeles Dodgers 88-67
- Chicago Cubs 88-67
- San Diego Padres 84-71
- New York Mets 80-75——-
- Cincinnati Reds 79-76
- Arizona Diamondbacks 78-77
And finally, my predictions for the playoffs. For the AL, I think the Tigers will narrowly hold on their AL Central lead, and will finish ahead of Cleveland by 1 game. Although they don’t win the division, I do think Cleveland will overtake the Astros and claim the 6 seed. Here are the standings.
- Toronto Blue Jays
- Seattle Mariners
- Detroit Tigers
- New York Yankees
- Boston Red Sox
- Cleveland Guardians
Now in the NL, I think every seed will stay the same, but just like the AL, the 6 seed will fall out of the race, and and a new team will emerge. This will be the Reds, and the Mets will miss out on the playoffs.
- Milwaukee Brewers
- Philadelphia Phillies
- Los Angeles Dodgers
- Chicago Cubs
- San Diego Padres
- Cincinnati Reds
Thank you for reading and good luck to your favorite team.
